Botox vs. Dysport: What's the Difference and Which Is Right for You?

If you've been researching neuromodulators, you've probably come across both Botox and Dysport. Both are FDA-approved injectable treatments that relax facial muscles to reduce wrinkles — but there are some meaningful differences that might make one a better fit for you.

What They Have in Common

Both Botox and Dysport are botulinum toxin type A products. They work by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that cause muscles to contract, which smooths dynamic wrinkles — the kind caused by repeated facial expressions like smiling, squinting, and frowning.

Both are safe, well-studied, and FDA-approved for cosmetic use. Both last approximately 3–4 months, though individual results vary based on metabolism, muscle mass, and treatment area.

Key Differences

• Onset: Dysport tends to show results in 2–3 days, while Botox typically takes 5–7 days to fully kick in.
• Spread: Dysport has a slightly wider diffusion radius, which can be advantageous for larger areas like the forehead but requires more precision around smaller areas like the lips.
• Dosing: Units are not interchangeable — Dysport is dosed in higher numbers than Botox, but this doesn't mean you're getting more product. The conversion is roughly 2.5:1 (Dysport to Botox).
• Feel: Some clients report that Dysport feels slightly "lighter" or more natural, though this is subjective.

Which Should You Choose?

For most clients, both products deliver excellent results. My recommendation is usually based on the treatment area and your personal goals. For forehead lines and crow's feet, either works beautifully. For very targeted areas or if you've had sensitivities to one product, we may prefer the other.
